PCP on the new Central Hospital of the Algarve: «it is necessary to move from announcements to acts»

PCP also draws attention to the fact that the option that the Government assumes is the construction of the new hospital through a Public-Private Partnership

«It is necessary to move from announcements to acts, building an infrastructure that is fundamental to expand and improve the response of the Service National Health Service in the region», says the PCP regarding the New Central Hospital of the Algarve.

The reaction comes after last week's meeting of the Council of Ministers, the PS Government made public that it decided to "continue the process of launching a new public-private partnership for the construction and equipment of the Central do Algarve Hospital building".

In a note sent to the newsrooms, the PCP states that it is "another announcement that adds to many others that have been made over more than 20 years, either by PS or PSD/CDS governments, without even time the work has been completed.

In addition to asking for implementation, the Communist Party emphasizes that this is a response that “has to be accompanied by other measures and fundamental investments, both for attracting and retaining health professionals in the SNS, and for improving the primary care network that it is also deficient throughout the Algarve».

The PCP draws attention, however, to the fact that the option that the Government assumes is the construction of the new hospital through a Public-Private Partnership.

«An option that was made in the name of containing the deficit in public accounts – this investment would not enter
for calculating the deficit – translates in practice into a work that will be more expensive for the public purse, benefiting the private economic group and harming the country», he stresses.

«The PCP, while continuing to monitor this process, demanding the urgent construction of the new Hospital Central do Algarve, appeals to SNS workers and users to intensify their struggle demanding that the right to health is not increasingly transformed into a disease business to which only a few have access», he concludes in a note.
