The closing party of the European Week of Sport took place last Friday, 30 September, in Olhão, and was «a real success». 

Jardim Pescador Olhanense has become a sports field with 42 modalities present, with more than 1000 participants trying them out.

Among the guests were leaders of associations, federations and clubs, Olympic athletes, world and European champions, coaches, representatives of Municipalities, AMAL (Association of Municipalities of the Algarve), CCDR (Commission for Coordination and Regional Development) Algarve, ANAFRE (National Association of Parishes), DGEST (Regional Directorate of Education) Algarve, the School of Hospitality and Tourism, the Public Security Police, the Maritime Police, among others.

António Miguel Pina, mayor of Olhão, Selene Martinho, vice-president of the IPDJ, João Evaristo, councilor for Sports at the Câmara de Olhão, and Custódio Moreno, regional director of the IPDJ Algarve, were the hosts.

Aurora Cunha and Ana Cabecinha spoke on behalf of the athletes, Manuel Cajuda and Paulo Murta on behalf of the coaches and Reinaldo Teixeira and Ricardo José on behalf of the leaders.

The European Week of Sport is an initiative of the European Commission, which aims to promote the practice of sport and physical activity, as well as to raise awareness of the numerous advantages of both. It is a European-wide event, with activities taking place in several countries and, in this year's edition, it took place from the 23rd to the 30th of September.

In the Algarve, during this week, there were almost 200 initiatives in all municipalities.
