New promotional video shows that the Algarve is also a Creative Tourism destination

Video was released in Madrid

Creative Tourism in the Algarve has gained a new “ally”, a two-minute promotional video that Turismo do Algarve launched a few days ago in an action in Madrid, which winks at «those who like to participate in authentic experiences based on in the local culture of the holiday destination'.

The video was made within the scope of the Algarve Craft & Food project and aims, according to Turismo do Algarve, «to make known the Algarve of arts and crafts to tourists who want to creatively explore cultures different from their own, interacting with the destinations they choose for their holidays».

Developed by Algarve production company New Light Pictures, the new video is available in Spanish, Portuguese and English and «presents the Algarve as a “plural territory with a single soul”, a concept that highlights the importance of tradition for the destination’s tourist offer» .

«Heritage, culture, tradition are decisive elements to build a tourist proposal with its own identity and differentiating from our competitors. The cultural offer has become the main motivation for choosing a tourist destination, according to the report. Flash Eurobarometer of the end of 2021 on the behavior of Europeans towards tourism. There is thus a new paradigm and it is also what we think of when we bet on a video that wants to put tourists in touch with the essence of the Algarve», says João Fernandes, president of Turismo do Algarve.

The Algarve Craft & Food (ACF) project, in which the video is part, aims to stimulate and internationalize the cultural and creative industries based on handicrafts and local agri-food products from the Algarve.

The project promoted by Turismo do Algarve, Tertúlia Algarvia and the QRER cooperative «contains several phases that will culminate in in the creation of 10 creative tourism programs by the summer of next year and an international promotion campaign that will help to publicize this new tourist segment in the Algarve», reveals Turismo do Algarve.

Learning to make a cataplana or a fine almond jam, working with esparto, molding a clay bowl or making traditional bread from the Algarve mountains are examples of the creative experiences that are being designed for tourists to enjoy from 2023 onwards.

«Until then, the brochure dedicated to creative tourism is in the process of being completed, executed by Turismo do Algarve, and the “Algarve Craft & Food Awards” are underway, which will distinguish the best products and tourist programs created within the scope of the project, as well as the best piece of communication (article/report) published about the ACF», he adds.

Until the 20th of October, all producers, artisans and tourist agents who have joined the project, as well as media or media professionals who have publicized it since its launch, in February 2020, will be able to compete for the awards.

The ACF is a project co-financed by CRESC Algarve 2020 – Regional Operational Program of the Algarve and in the end it hopes to “promote sustainable tourist experiences, especially in rural areas and in the interior of the Algarve, simultaneously supporting and revitalizing traditional practices that help to increase income of artisans and local food producers'.
