New athletics track in Lagoa inaugurated with “blessing” from Patrícia Mamona

The new track will be able to host stages of several national and international athletes

The new athletics track at Estádio da Bela Vista (Lagoa) was inaugurated this Saturday, October 8, with the presence of Patrícia Mamona, Olympic vice-champion in triple jump.

The athlete, who normally chooses Lagoa and the Bela Vista Stadium athletics track to train, made a point of being present at this moment, checking the new conditions of the track and the new valences.

Patrícia Mamona also accompanied and encouraged the younger ones in the tests and exercises that took place throughout the afternoon. In this way, as mentioned by Luís Encarnação, mayor of Lagoa, the athlete ended up sponsoring the new track.

Moreover, the opening of the new track has been longing for a long time, since the old one, built in 2009, «was already very degraded and without the minimum conditions for sports».

With no chance of repairing the existing track, the Municipality of Lagoa invested 600 thousand euros in this new one, adding new features, namely four ramps, unique in the country and of the few existing in Europe.

The new track will be able to host stages of several national and international athletes.

«We work daily to promote the practice of sports in the county, to give the best conditions to our athletes and to always keep the name of Lagoa as a reference at the national level, in terms of sport. It is a great joy for us to be able to say that we have a track with this quality and these valences in our municipality", said Luís Encarnação, mayor of Lagoa.

The inauguration was also attended by João Paulo Correia, Secretary of State for Sport and Youth, Jorge Vieira, president of the Portuguese Athletics Federation, Custódio Moreno, regional director of the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth, and Francisco Chumbinho, president of the Portuguese Athletics Association. of Athletics in the Algarve.
