Beach Ultimate World Championship takes 1200 athletes to Portimão

Over the next two weekends

The European and World Ultimate Beach Championships take, over the next two weekends, close to 1200 athletes to Praia da Rocha, in Portimão.

The first competition will be the 2nd European Championship of Ultimate Beach Clubs (EBUCC), scheduled for the 14th, 15th and 16th of October, in which about 900 participants will compete, with daily games between 8:00 and 18:00.

In its 2nd edition, the EBUCC will feature 61 teams from 17 countries divided into three divisions (mixed, women's and men's), with the finals scheduled for Sunday, October 16th, with the following schedule: 12:30 pm – women's division, 13:45 pm – mixed division, 15:00 – men's division.

From the 19th to the 22nd of October, it will be the turn of three hundred practitioners aged 45 and over to participate in the Beach Ultimate Club World Championship in the Great Grand Masters (WFDF) division.

The event has 16 teams from Europe, the United States, Canada and Japan, with the finals scheduled for the 22nd, starting at 16:00.

To host the two competitions, the beach of Praia da Rocha will be transformed into 12 playing fields, in which close to 350 matches will be played.

Sofia Campos Pereira, director of competitions, emphasizes that “it will be fantastic to see beach ultimate played at such a high level and the choice of Praia da Rocha was something natural, due to all the conditions it offers and the support provided by the Municipality of Portimão”.

In a note, the municipality explains that “the two events were scheduled for Portimão following the success of the European Nations Championship” held in Praia da Rocha in 2019 within the scope of the European City of Sport.

«This return stems from the municipal strategy of promoting relevant sporting events, which counteract the decline in tourist attractions, common at this time of year».
