Lagos awards praise to athletes, teams and clubs in three sports

As recognition for the titles achieved in the 2021/2022 sports season

Clubs, teams and athletes from Lagos, in the modalities of women's handball, skating and athletics, were distinguished with congratulations and praise by the City Council, in recognition of the titles achieved in the 2021/2022 sports season.

Altogether, the Lagos Chamber approved the allocation of four votes of congratulations and praise.

One of them was for the Clube Desportivo team at Escola Secundária Gil Eanes, which won three national champion titles last season, «namely in the Seniors of the 2nd Division, Under-20 and Under-17.

The municipality wanted to honor not only these achievements, but also «the journey of athletes Matilde Rosa, Matilde Correia, Carmem Figueiredo, Maria Pico and Beatriz Silva, who, in the service of the National Women's Handball Team, participated in international competitions held in Macedonia in North, Algeria, Sweden and Czechia, raising the bar of its performance and taking the name of Lagos to other places».

 

 

Another team that was distinguished was Roller Lagos Clube de Patinagem, «whose athletes collected and brought home a handful of titles: National Club Champion, with the men's Under-17 team, National Individual Track Champion won by Miguel Bravo, Martyn Dias, Beatriz Costa, Miguel Monteiro, Tiago Monteiro and Maria Dias and the European Champion in American Relay, achieved by Miguel Monteiro».

«As in women's handball, Roller also has several athletes integrated in the National Team, participating in international competitions, as was the case of the 2022 World Games, held in the United States, where Miguel Bravo obtained an honorable 4th place, the best classification of always a Portuguese athlete», according to the Lagos Chamber.

In athletics, António Fidalgo, athlete of the Esperança de Lagos Football Club, was distinguished for having obtained the title of National Champion - Veterans (M55) Men's level in the 6 kg Hammer event of the National Open Air Track Championship.

In the same championship, Pedro Braz Correia, athlete from Lacobrigena, but who represents the Tunes Athletics Club, obtained the title of National Champion in the Men's Veterans - 400m event.
