ICNF opens applications to support zoophilic associations and municipalities

The Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests (ICNF) opens applications for support in the total amount of 12 thousand euros to Zoophilic associations and Municipalities. 

All beneficiaries, whether municipalities or animal associations, must regularize the insertion of data related to the sterilization and identification of animals in the Companion Animal Information System (SIAC) until the 15th of October, so that they can be compensated, with retroactive, against the expenses incurred between the 1st of October of last year and the 30th of September of this year.

Only applications submitted that have the information duly updated in the SIAC will be validated.

«The National Program for Companion Animals came to recognize the importance of zoophilic associations in controlling the population of stray animals, namely through partnerships established with municipalities, and the reception of animals whose owners are unable to keep. In this context, it is important to support these organizations, as partners in the strategy to promote animal welfare and control of stray animals", says the ICNF in a note.

The Instituto da Conservação da Natureza e das Florestas also determined incentives for investment in official collection centers and support for the improvement of facilities for legally constituted zoophiles, as well as for identification, sterilization campaigns and actions to raise awareness of the benefits the sterilization of companion animals.

Of these, 7 million euros for investment in official collection centers for companion animals and in support of the improvement of the facilities of legally constituted zoophilic associations, 2 million and 300 thousand euros for improving the provision of veterinary assistance services to animals kept by families needy and zoophilic associations, through protocols with university veterinary hospitals and the creation of a public veterinary hospital, 2 million to support official animal collection centers and zoophilic associations in animal sterilization processes, as part of a national campaign of sterilization and 100 euros to increase funds for the electronic registration of pets.
