The 20th edition of the municipal project “Saúde em Movimento”, in Lagos, starts this Friday, October 7, with a lecture on “Walking, Well-being and Connection with Nature”, at the Auditorium of Paços do Concelho, XNUMXst Century . 

The session, which will be attended by partner entities and participants, is also intended for the general public, since the project is open to new registrations, whether by citizens over 40 years of age (who may be part of the program " Saúde em Movimento”), or by all citizens who wish to develop walking and/or running activities with monitoring and advice (within the Municipal Center for Marching and Running).

«Pedro Cuiça, who is a monitor of free time activities, sports coach in hiking and trainer of walking trails technicians, among other qualifications and activities within the scope of Mountain Sports, will come to talk and share with the public his knowledge about the health benefits deriving from the practice of walking, since it has been proven that those who practice this physical exercise have a lower risk of contracting chronic diseases», says the Câmara de Lagos.

The initiative will also highlight the benefits of walking in a forest environment, for example for connecting with nature and the favorable impact on the health and well-being of practitioners.

This session will also take stock of the project and present the program for the 2022/2023 edition, which includes 11 established gymnastics classes, operating in all parishes and villages in the municipality, in addition to the aquatic exercises aspect in the Municipal swimming pool.

In addition, project users have the possibility to participate as a group in the regional walking marches, which take place from October to June all over the Algarve, or in the weekly walks within the municipality that invite them to “Rediscover our land ”.

The highlight of the program is the Senior Olympics, intercity sports meetings organized in partnership with the neighboring municipalities of Portimão, Lagoa, Monchique and Silves, which annually provide a healthy interaction between technical teams and users. On a more educational level, the program includes health education sessions and “Science has no age” activities promoted in conjunction with the Ciência Viva Center in Lagos.

Within the scope of the Saúde em Movimento program, the intervention is also extended to users of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lagos residential homes (project “ArticuLAR”), and there is also a collaboration with “Diabetes em Movimento”, a program of the General Directorate. of Health which is scheduled to restart in January 2023.

As for enrollment in the program, they must be made at the Espaço Jovem Gymnasium (formerly Escola Gil Eanes), on Fridays, from 11:00 am to 13:00 pm, and include an interview, assessment and exercise prescription according to the objectives and health condition of the participants. users.
