There is 1 million euros to support municipal projects for the collection of bio-waste in the Algarve

AMAL will manage the applications for the “RecolhaBio” program in the Algarve

AMAL – Comunidade Intermunicipal do Algarve has almost one million euros to support projects by municipal and intermunicipal councils or companies aimed at increasing the quantity and quality of waste recycling, in particular bio-waste, in the Algarve region, and is accepting applications. until 31 October.

The entity that brings together the 16 Algarve municipalities signed a technical and financial collaboration protocol with the Environmental Fund, in the amount of 919.783,20 euros, which will allow it to approve and monitor the execution of applications submitted by the municipalities.

Entities interested in applying for the “RecolhaBio” program must do so by the end of the month. through the Environmental Fund website. The support rate is 100%, focusing on eligible expenses, and the investments must be completed by the end of October 2023.

«The protocol, now signed, aims to regulate the terms and conditions, of a technical and financial nature, of the collaboration between the Fund and the Algarve Intermunicipal Community, within the scope of the program “RecolhaBio – Support for the implementation of projects for the selective collection of biowaste” . It is intended that, in the end, the municipalities can demonstrate the increase that this support has provided in the collection of bio-waste and/or in the increase in the quantities of waste collected selectively», summarized AMAL.

Associated with the protocol, the regulation establishing the conditions for applications was published, «aiming to finance projects already carried out, to be carried out or in progress, and which guarantee a positive contribution to increasing the quantity and quality of waste recycling, with particular emphasis on in bio-waste, thus promoting a reduction in the deposition of waste in landfills'.

The regulation specifically provides for the financing of projects or initiatives that “increase the capacity of municipalities to ensure the selective collection of urban waste, in particular bio-waste, which must include infrastructure and the acquisition of equipment associated with this service. and, at the same time, raising users' awareness to improve their practices'.
