GAL Pesca Sotavento receives counterparts from Galicia

It was possible to show some of the territory of intervention of the Sotavento GAL

On the 26th and 27th of October, the Algarve Pesca Sotavento GAL hosted a group of Spanish counterparts from Galicia – the Grupo de Acción Local do Sector Pesqueiro (GALP) Costa da Morte.

This GALP was represented by two mariscadoras, a fisherman, two mayors (mayors), a technician and a historian/journalist.

As part of the exchange of experiences and good practices, the visit aimed to get to know some projects supported by the Pesca Sotavento Algarve GAL that can serve as an example to replicate in its intervention territory, in Galicia.

For a more detailed visit, a set of projects covering different typologies, as well as various types of beneficiaries, private and public, were chosen.

The projects chosen were the maritime tourist tours in Culatra (beneficiary: Manuel Mestre), the decarbonisation of aquaculture activity on the island of Culatra (beneficiary: Associação de Moradores da Ilha da Culatra), the rehabilitation of the unloading pier at the port of fishing in Olhão (Beneficiary: Docapesca), the promotion of fresh fish (beneficiary: Associação de Armadores de Pesca da Fuzeta) and the Faro Story Spot – The City and the Ria (Beneficiary: Good Moments).

The itinerary also included guided walks to the markets of Olhão, where the fish and regional products sold there were appreciated, to the fishing port of Olhão, to visit the Docapesca facilities, to the Cooperativa Formosa association, to observe the purification process. of the bivalves, the Fuseta fish market and the premises of the Fishing Shipowners Association of that town, and the riverside area of ​​the city of Faro, where some investments supported by the Pesca Sotavento Algarve LAG were made known.

It was thus possible to show some of the LAG's intervention territory, not only geographically, but also in terms of the type of beneficiaries and initiatives carried out.
