The Guilherme D'Oliveira Martins Fund of the Loulé Municipal Library will be reinforced with 700 copies, thanks to another donation from the current president of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

Created in 2016, this fund emerged after the offer to Loulé City Council of around 4000 books and magazines, mainly in the area of pedagogy. Now the assigned collection has books and magazines on history, politics, culture, art and architecture, novels and even some classics of world literature.

In addition to the acquisitions it makes, the Loulé Municipal Library receives numerous donations from individuals as well as offers from various institutions that are essential for the creation of its documentary collection.

«In this context, Guilherme d'Oliveira Martins has played a very important role in supporting culture and promoting books and reading in the county, as he has been one of the biggest donors to this Library», says the Loulé Chamber.

Despite being born in Lisbon, Guilherme D'Oliveira Martins maintains strong ties to the municipality of Loulé as his mother was born in Boliqueime.

Over the years, it has been an assiduous presence at events in the county, especially when it comes to cultural initiatives. Just a week ago, she participated in the presentation of a book dedicated to the architect Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles, which took place at the Salão dos Paços do Concelho de Loulé.

He is currently Executive Director of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and chairs the Great Council / Arts Council of the National Center for Culture.
