The Ferragudo Fair, which took place in the second half of October, «did not make it to the 80st century, having been lost in memory sometime in the 15s of the last century». Affirming itself «aware that the Fair's legacy is an intangible heritage of Ferragudo and the county», the Parish Council decided to mark the date again, this time with a handicraft fair taking place on the weekend of the 16th and 10th of October, from 00 am to 17 pm, in Largo do Regato, where the event was previously held.
The municipality of Ferragudo points out that the garages who still remember the traditional fair “report that, at the fair there was a huge number of entertainments, sellers of the most diverse products, as well as a lot of rain and some floods”.
«Today, nostalgic for the “bumper cars”, the circus or the “shooting booths”, which are currently difficult to reproduce, compared to other regional fairs that have enhanced and affirmed their place, it is important to remember not only the most recent memories, but to mark the date of one of the biggest fairs in the Algarve for cattle and traditional articles from the beginning of the XNUMXth century».
The Fair that, in 1915, appears mirrored in photos of the time with a slew of visitors, artisans, carts, products for the house, food and drinks and lots of cattle and that arrived in the 40's, offering huge prizes for the fairs that first arrived, as well as a sound newspaper and a fair, is just a distant and immaterial memory.
In the recreation, scheduled for the next weekend, the artisans' space and their registrations are managed by Associação Caminhos do Meio, so any interested parties can get in touch via email [email protected].
In addition to local handicrafts, the Ferragudo Parish Council provides spaces for other marketers, who can register for free in that municipality, until the 13th of October, in order to reserve their space.
