The XIII Feira da Perdiz will take place on the weekend of the 12th and 13th of November, in Martim Longo, in an initiative of the Alcoutim Chamber to «promote the extraordinary hunting conditions of the county. This year, the event will take place in a new location, next to Avenida dos Almocreves, in Martim Longo, and admission is free.
The new venue «reformulates the visit to the fair» and seeks to concentrate all activities «in a single space, more orderly and easier to navigate», explains the Alcoutim Chamber.
For this purpose, a tent will be placed next to Avenida dos Almocreves, where companies and associations of the sector will be present, as well as a wide range of activities, such as exhibitions of game species, handicrafts, equestrian and children's activities, the XII Alcoutim Dog Contest and, for the first time, the Alcoutim Packs Contest and the Honey Contest.
In the taverns, it will be possible to taste several typical dishes of the region's cuisine at this time of year, with emphasis on game-based dishes.
The music will be by the popular artist Romana, at 22:00 pm on Saturday, while on Sunday, at 18:30 pm, the group «Banza» takes the stage. On the two days of the fair, there will be a circulating animation in charge of “Bandinha Toma lá 5”. The program also includes dances.
On the morning of the 13th, Sunday, two sporting activities will take place: the 3rd Trail “On the partridge route” and the Running March included in the IDPJ's annual running march calendar.
The Municipality of Alcoutim explains that «the name of the fair, dedicated to hunting in general, is due to the fact that the red partridge, queen of small game, is particularly common in this region». «Despite having suffered a marked decline in the Iberian Peninsula, in Alcoutim it is not uncommon to be surprised by a flock of red partridges crossing the road», adds the municipality.
