Faro: Casa das Virtudes premieres “Cegueira” to celebrate one hundred years of Saramago

on the 17st

The multidisciplinary show “Cegueira”, created and performed by Gérald Oliveira, Ricardo Morujo and Rita Spider, will have its premiere at Casa das Virtudes, in Faro, on the 17rd of November, at 21:30 pm.

In addition to the premiere, two more sessions will be promoted, on the 18th and 19th of November, at the same time.

Through dance, circus and representation, the public will be taken to the universe of the work “O Ensaio sobre a cegueira” by José Saramago, whose centenary Casa das Virtudes, producer of the show, intends to celebrate.

This is «an immersive and sensorial show», where the audience «has the power to manipulate the narrative», according to Casa das Virtudes.

The production of the play has the support of DGArtes and the Saramago Foundation, «which kindly provided the rights to the work “O Ensaio Sobre a Cegueira”».

Synopsis:

Whoever has an eye in the land of the blind is king!

Is this totally true?

In an asylum, where freedom is null, but the will to leave stands out above everything and everyone, people reside without knowing, of course, that they were placed in that establishment to be forgotten.

All this just because they blinded!

A white blindness never seen before, which prevents them from seeing the darkness of this new present! They say it is an epidemic, possibly a pandemic… Sentenced to the absence of the outside world, they will have to fight for their survival.

With the passage of time, confined, without any perspective of the future and deprived of one of the five senses, they will act before their nature…. Are these acts reprehensible?… Should they continue to follow moral and ethical laws?
