Algarve Stadium is once again home to Gibraltar for Euro 2024 qualifying matches

Gibraltar is in Group B, with France, Netherlands, Republic of Ireland and Greece

The Gibraltar team will play the qualifying matches for the 2024 European Championship at Estádio Algarve, confirmed this Thursday, October 13, the Football Federation of this country.

In a statement, this entity explains that this choice is due to the fact that the construction works of the new National Stadium will only start in mid-2023.

Since 2018, despite the venue not meeting all the requirements, Gibraltar played home matches at the Victoria Stadium, under an exemption granted by UEFA.

This exception took into account the fact that the works on the new stadium will start in 2020, something that was not possible due to the pandemic.

Now, as qualification for the 2024 European Championship starts in March, Gibraltar has decided to move the games at home to the Algarve Stadium.

The team is in group B, with France, Netherlands, Republic of Ireland and Greece.

This is not, by the way, the first time that Gibraltar has used the Estádio Algarve for qualifying matches for major competitions. This also happened in the access matches to Euro 2016 and the 2018 World Cup.
