on the 15st

“From Quarteira to Ludo: a historical journey along the coast of Loulé and its resources” will be the theme of another conference in the cycle “Loulé on the timeline, which will take place on the 15th, at 15:00, at the Loulé Municipal Archive Professor Joaquim Romero Magalhães and will have Ana Cláudia Silveira as a speaker.

This session will seek to «contribute to a better understanding of some aspects related to the evolution of the Loulé coastline over the centuries», according to the Loulé Chamber.

For this, Ana Cláudia Silveira relied on «a diverse set of written sources preserved in different archives and documentary funds».

«The wetlands of fluvio-maritime genesis have played an important role in the course of history, both in environmental, economic and even military terms, reasons for which they have aroused a particular interest, having been the object of the implementation of diversified strategies in order to promote the use of the its ample resources and potential», frames the autarchy.

«Human interventions carried out in these coastal spaces often led to the gradual transformation of both the physical and cultural landscapes, making it sometimes difficult to reconstruct what their appearance and organization would have been during medieval and modern times», he adds.

Ana Cláudia Silveira is a researcher at the Institute of Medieval Studies of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa and is part of the UNESCO Chair team “The Cultural Heritage of the Oceans”, which works under the coordination of CHAM – Center for Humanities.

His doctoral thesis focuses on the urban space of medieval Setúbal and its integration into the Masters Table of the Military Order of Santiago, pending its defense.
