Cinema returned to low Faro in a Farcume with a «very positive» balance

It was "three nights of a full room"

“21 years later, Cinema returns to downtown”. This was the motto of the last edition of “Farcume: International Short Film Festival of Faro”, which took place from the 23rd to the 25th of September, in the place where the Cine-Teatro Santo António used to be, and whose balance is “very positive”.

There were «three nights with a full room at the CCH – Cultural and Conference Hub at 3HB Faro and an average of 70 visitors per night», says the association Faro 1540, organizer of the festival.

On the future, Paulo de Oliveira Botelho, president of FARO 1540 – Association for the Defense and Promotion of the Environmental and Cultural Heritage of Faro, organizing entity of Farcume, perspective that it involves consolidating «the partnerships and synergies built over the last few years, which we consider to be an asset for the continuous affirmation at a national and international level, adding value to the Farcume brand».

«The objective is to continue the long journey in structuring new paths and new audiences and affirming cinema as a multicultural artistic expression, capable of uniting, involving and educating audiences for the challenges that the world faces at an environmental and social level, enhancing production nationally and internationally", he adds.

In the fiction category, the winner was the short film “Souerdogs”, by director Guillermo de Oliveira. In this category, the jury also highlighted with honorable mention the short film: “Oblívio”, by director Ricardo Leite, “The Humbrella”, by director Christopher Sanchéz Martin, and “Soul”, by director Mónica Santos.

In the documentary category, the winner was “Kambana”, by Spanish director Samuel Pastore.

The documentary “O Legado Maronês”, by director Cláudio Reguengo, was also distinguished.

In the animation category, the winner was “Nata da Vida”, by directors Cláudia Gomes and Ricardo Soares.

The jury also highlighted in the animation category with honorable mention the short film “O Búzio”, by director Aurora Fernandes.

Finally, the jury unanimously awarded the Grand Prix Farcume + to the short film “The Recess”, directed by Navid Nikkhah Azad.
