A new ecological island, composed of four underground containers, was installed by the Silves Council on Rua das Sereias, in Armação de Pêra, in an investment that amounted to 45 thousand euros.
One of the containers is for unsorted waste, while the other three are for recyclable waste.
With this and other similar investments, the municipality intends to fulfill «the goals established in the Action Plan - PERSU 2020 (Waste Management) which aim, in particular, to increase the capitation of selective waste collection».
«The expansion of ecological islands across the county proves to be a more modern, clean urban solution with a favorable visual impact, in line with the defense and promotion of environmental values, cost reduction and the promotion of more environmentally friendly civic habits and behaviors », considers the Chamber of Silves.
