Expansion of the Internet network to the entire territory is under public consultation

for 30 days

The public consultation of the parts of a future international public tender for the installation, management, operation and maintenance of very high capacity internet networks in areas without coverage, has been running since yesterday, the 27th of October, and for a period of 30 days.

All citizens, organizations, entities, municipalities, among others, can make suggestions, which the Government will take into account when launching the tender in the coming months.

The documents under public consultation resulted from a request made by the Government to ANACOM to carry out a new survey of the coverage of very high-capacity public electronic communications networks existing in the national territory, «namely its compatibility with the rules defined by the Commission European Union for public funding of these investments, such as house-to-house mapping and the inclusion of investment plans covering the entire period of the measure (three years)», framed the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCRDR).

“This new consultation will make it possible to consider even better the criteria to be considered in the international public tender, which make it possible to ensure the access of the entire population to high-capacity public electronic communications networks, in line with the goals of the European Commission”, he added.

Following this public consultation, the Government will launch an international public tender to choose the wholesale operators responsible for the installation, management, operation and maintenance of very high capacity networks throughout the country.
