Students of the 3rd year of the Sports Course at the Higher School of Education and Communication of the University of Algarve received training in Water Safety and Emergency, given by Red Seagull, in the municipal swimming pools of Faro.

The training was given at the invitation of Professor Dalmo Machado and within the scope of the Curricular Unit Prevention, Security and Emergency.

In the three-hour session, concepts such as drowning and rescue were discussed.

It had a strong practical component, with the students learning how to carry out rescues from the perspective of the general public and from the perspective of rescue professionals.

They also addressed the stages of the drowning survival chain, learned to identify drowned, learned rescue techniques with and without means, techniques for extracting the castaways and transport techniques.

The session ended with a rescue exercise, where the students had to apply and test all the knowledge acquired during the session.

This action is part of Red Seagull's SALVA+ Drowning Prevention Program.
