Algarve participates in the Week of the European Union Regions

Governance is a central issue for the development of territories and for the use of European funds

The president of the Algarve Regional Development and Coordination Commission (CCDR) participated in the high-level workshop, promoted by the Agency for Development and Cohesion (AD&C), as part of the 20th anniversary of the European Week of Regions and Cities – #EURegionsWeek , promoted by the European Commission in Brussels.

Dedicated to the “role of cohesion policy in strengthening multi-level governance: lessons and challenges from Portugal”, the workshop was attended by Duarte Rodrigues, vice president of AD&C, Nicole de Michellis, director general at the European Commission for Smart Growth and Sustainable, and Dorothée Allain-Dupré, Head of the Division for Regional Development and Multi-Level Governance at the Organization for European Economic Cooperation (OEEC).

What has been the role of Cohesion Policy in the development and implementation of multi-level governance models? And what are the challenges in configuring and implementing them? These were some of the questions answered at the meeting in Brussels.

Governance is a central issue for the development of territories and for the use of European funds. Multilevel governance models offer a variety of solutions for public policy implementation and decentralization.

They are fundamental for the sustainable and inclusive development of the regions and for their digital and green transition, as well as for retaining and attracting inhabitants, including young people.

José Apolinário, president of CCDR Algarve, defended, in particular, the advance of regionalization, the creation of a regional decision-making level, to be articulated with the inter-municipal and municipal level.
