Albufeira marks World Health Day with a program focused on the youngest

The activities within the scope of the “Synergias” project take place between the 10th and 15th of October

Albufeira will celebrate World Mental Health Day by holding the first edition of the “Synergias” project, focused on the youngest, between the 10th and 15th of October.

The project aims to «alert the community in general to the importance of creating synergies, uniting efforts, skills and talents, with a view to providing children and young people in the municipality with healthy environments, which contribute to the improvement of their well-being. , development and emotional balance, sensitize them to co-responsibility, as well as boost networking, with the involvement of the family, school, municipality, associations, entrepreneurs and all citizens in favor of the mental health of young people», says the autarchy in note.

This is an initiative promoted by the Municipality, organized by the Macramé Network (a network of psychologists from public services and IPSS's in the municipality), in partnership with the ARS – Regional Health Administration of the Algarve (ACES).

«The initiative is based on the assumption that children and young people are not only the responsibility of parents, educators and teachers, but of the whole community, hence the importance of networking and that everyone is attentive to detect, but above all to prevent situations of isolation and emotional imbalances, which can lead to mental health problems», said José Carlos Rolo, mayor.

The program, which emerged within the scope of the Commemorations of the World Mental Health Day and the European Year of Youth, established by the European Parliament and Council of the European Union, thus aims to highlight the repercussions that the pandemic has brought to well-being and health. mental health of children and to raise awareness of the importance of youth in building the future and a better Europe.

In a note, the City Council of Faro refers that the Macramé Network has been closely monitoring the fragile situation of mental health, emotional balance and well-being of children and adolescents in the municipality of Albufeira, expressing a firm desire to join efforts and create moments of reflection-action , of which this first edition of the “Synergias” program is an example.

José Carlos Rolo also highlights the importance of the program, stressing that «scientific evidence shows that mental illness in children and young people often results in school failure, problems in social and family relationships, job instability, among other difficulties that are difficult to reverse, at very high economic and social costs'.

Thus, from the 10th to the 15th of October, a program will be held with various activities and experiences in which interactions between professionals in the areas of mental health and education, students and the community are privileged.

The activities are aimed at improving the health of the body and mind and include conversation circles, cinema, workshops, open classes, art and radical events, youth and peace and the sustainability of the planet.

A highlight is also the fifth edition of the project “Brincar Seguro, Correndo Riscos”, which takes place in Parque do Ribeiro, on the last day of the event, from 10:00 am to 21:30 pm. It is an activity that has been very successful in the community and aims to promote the physical and mental health of the youngest, making them aware of outdoor activities and respect for nature and urban spaces.

«Preparing youth for the future and offering them tools that enable them to respond to the various challenges they face throughout life, in a healthy and emotionally sustainable way, is also a responsibility of civil society, the community, and all those who in it they cohabit. Because we believe in this, we are committed to developing a more evolved society with a more open vision of the future. This is one of the projects that we have developed with our partners, thinking about the well-being of those who will be the foundations of our society in the future», concluded the Mayor of Albufeira.
