Albufeira signs addendum to the protocol with the Portuguese Red Cross

Municipality took the opportunity to recognize the work of the Silves-Albufeira Humanitarian Center during the critical phase of the pandemic

Last Monday, October 25th, the Municipality of Albufeira signed an addendum to the protocol made with the Portuguese Red Cross – Silves-Albufeira Humanitarian Center since 2020, providing for the possibility of its annual renewal and attribution, for the current calendar year. of a support of 40 thousand euros.

«This Red Cross center, an institution of great nature for the city of Albufeira, has played a fundamental role in supporting disadvantaged populations, providing a complete response in situations to which municipal services do not always have access», says José Carlos Rolo, president of the Albufeira City Council.

On a visit to the premises of this Humanitarian Centre, the mayor signed not only the addendum to the protocol but also took the opportunity to show gratitude and recognition for the work provided by this institution during the critical period of the Covid-19 pandemic.

As it has done with other institutions, the Municipality of Albufeira offered a plaque and a Diploma to the Portuguese Red Cross – Humanitarian Center Silves-Albufeira, in the person of its director, António José Pontes.

“During the two critical years of the pandemic, the Red Cross was one of the institutions that was always present on the front line in supporting the population. As such, the City Council recognizes this support given to the people of Albufeira, dedicating this distinction to all the professionals, employees and volunteers of the Red Cross, who were guided by an irreproachable ethics, in the sense of fighting and countering this terrible virus and that made possible the fulfillment of the mission of help and care to all those who needed support during that period, since the beginning of the first quarantine», concluded the mayor of Albufeira.
