16 young Ukrainians participate in a summer camp in Portimão

The initiative takes place under the program of the European Committee of the Regions

16 young people, aged between 10 and 17, from the municipality of Bilopillya, in the Sumy region, Ukraine, participate, between the 3rd and 24th of October, in the Portimão summer camps as part of the European Committee of the Regions program . 

The main objective of this three-week holiday camp is, according to the municipality, to create “a space where they can feel safe and find the normality of a balanced daily routine, helping to restore confidence in the future, through the promotion of outdoor activities, the practice of sport and emotional rehabilitation initiatives, which will also allow these young people to feel that Ukraine is part of Europe».

So far, Portimão is the only Portuguese municipality to be part of the project, in conjunction with the Association of Municipalities of Ukraine.

The holiday camp program in Portimão favors not only activities in the various sports and cultural facilities of the Municipality, but also outdoor activities, providing trips to the beach, activities in the sports area of ​​Praia da Rocha, surfing, diving baptisms, swimming , cultural tours, environmental activities and a trip on a solar catamaran along the Arade River, among others.

In addition to tours of Portimão and Alvor, focusing on cultural facilities and historical sites, as well as trips to Praia da Rocha, the Pedagogical Farm of Portimão and the municipality of Monchique, young people will have the opportunity to visit some of the main theme parks in region, such as Slide and Splash, Zoo de Lagos and Krazy World.

Some local partners also contribute by offering tickets for visits, such as Zoomarine, Sand City and the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, where young people had the unique opportunity to attend the Superbike World Cup.

 

 

This was also a good opportunity for other Ukrainian children, currently attending schools in the Municipality, to join the group to watch this great sporting event and strengthen ties of friendship with each other.

Young Ukrainians will also attend sporting and cultural events that are on the agenda these days in Portimão, such as the futsal game, scheduled for October 17, at the Boavista Sports Pavilion, and the show “Lado Bom”, at the on the 22nd, which will take place in the Grand Auditorium of the Teatro Municipal de Portimão.

Throughout the summer camp programme, young Ukrainians are also accompanied by technicians from the Housing and Social Development and Health Division, within the scope of the social support provided, in addition to the Municipality counting on the support of the Center for Support to the Population of East and Amigos for the translation service of all activities that require explanations and follow-up, as well as in the promotion of Portuguese classes.

The agenda ends on the 23rd of October with a farewell dinner, to be held at Nosolo Aqua da Praia da Rocha.
