Visit to the fruit tree collection, exhibition and seminar: DRAPAlg celebrates the Mediterranean Diet

A visit to the collections of traditional fruit trees, an exhibition and a seminar. The Algarve Regional Directorate of Agriculture and Fisheries (DRAP) will have several activities at the Mediterranean Diet Fair that takes place from the 8th to the 11th of September.

This visit to the Algarve's traditional fruit tree collections, open to the entire community, marks the beginning of the event, on the 8th of September, at 9:45 am, at the Centro de Experimentação Agrária de Tavira (CEAT).

«These collections are of high heritage and cultural interest, as, in addition to most being unique in the country, they are representative of the typical Algarve landscape and, therefore, of the imagination associated with the Mediterranean Diet», says DRAPAlg.

Afterwards, interested parties will be able to visit the exhibition “Carob – Memories of a Life”, on display in the CEAT headquarters building, a property donated by the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve and the Municipal Museum of Faro.

The exhibition presents a set of photographs by Luisa Melão, which portray the carob seed processing plant of the Industrial Farense company, unique in the country.

On the same day, at 14:30 pm, a Seminar will also be held at CEAT under the motto “Health, Food and Mediterranean Diet” organized jointly by DRAP Algarve, CCDR Algarve and the Municipality of Tavira.

The seminar in question, whose program is available here, will focus on topics of relevant interest in the context of the Mediterranean Diet, including “the main challenges to protect health”, “Longevity in the XNUMXth century”, and “Longevity in the XNUMXth century”. XXI” and the dissemination of the “Medita Project”, with the participation of speakers: Pedro Graça, from the Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences of the University of Porto, Sandra Pais, from the Algarve Biomedical Center, José Coucelo, from the Portuguese Cardiology Foundation , Maria Palma Mateus, from the University of Algarve, Teresa Sancho, from ARS – Algarve, António Marreiros and Luis Cabrita, from DRAP Algarve.

Also within the scope of the Fair's programme, a round table will be held on the 9th of September (Friday) on the theme "Food Sustainability", organized by CCDR Algarve, DRAP Algarve, Municipality of Tavira, DECO and Associação Portuguesa de Nutrition.

During the days of the Fair, DRAP Algarve will also be represented with an institutional stand at the event's grounds and in culinary demonstrations presented at the Ribeira Market, by the Vila Real de Santo António Hotel and Tourism School and by the In Loco Association, which will have based on the preserves “Saborear o Algarve”, developed as part of a project coordinated by DRAP Algarve and financed by Mar2020.
