TGV: PSD accuses Government of leaving Algarve «outside»

For Cristóvão Norte, president of the PSD/Algarve, «the country will shrink on one side, but it will not shrink on the other»

The PSD/Algarve considers that the region was, “once again, left out” of the Government's options that announced this Wednesday, 28 September, the TGV Porto-Lisbon connection, not including the Algarve.

This high-speed line will make it possible to connect the two main Portuguese cities in 1h15, an investment that, in the words of Minister Pedro Nuno Santos, will make the country “shrink”.

The Algarve Social Democrats reacted today, regretting that the Algarve remains out.

The region will continue to be «three hours from Lisbon, in the case of Faro, more than that for Barlavento and around four hours in the case of Vila Real de Santo António», they say in a statement.

In addition, they consider that the «investments planned for the Algarve», such as the electrification of the line, which has already started, «do not imply a reduction in travel times, since it was decided not to make any changes to the route».

According to the PSD/Algarve, only «there will be a marginal increase in speed without any gain for the mobility of citizens».

For Cristóvão Norte, president of the PSD/Algarve, «the country will shrink on one side, but it will not shrink on the other».

«We will continue at the same distance from Lisbon and Spain, still without a decision on the connection to the airport and without a regional intercity logic that is necessary to revolutionize mobility in the region. The Algarve cannot be left out», he concludes.
