Silves marks World Spine Day with activities in municipal swimming pools

Between 10th and 20th of October

The Municipality of Silves will mark the World Spine Day with a program of activities, between the 10th and 20th of October, in the complex of municipal swimming pools of Silves (CPMS), which include screenings for the spine, a gathering and classes water aerobics therapies, clinical pilates and hydrotherapy.

With the objective of detecting any postural alteration, with emphasis on the evaluation of the spine, the celebrations will start with the realization of screenings of the spine, with sessions on October 10th and 11th, from 14:00 to 18:00, aimed at adults, and with screenings on the 12th, from 13:30 pm to 17:30 pm, aimed at children and young people from 10 to 17 years old.

The screenings will be promoted by the Escola Superior de Saúde Jean Piaget Algarve (ESSJPA) and are free, but subject to prior registration until the 6th at the Chamber website.

In a note, the municipality emphasizes that a scoliometer will be used, which will check the presence of alteration in the column. «In this process, the device is positioned on the participant's back (non-invasive and painless assessment), and it is necessary that the evaluated ones come with comfortable clothes such as a bikini or swimming trunks».

The celebrations continue with the holding of a meeting, on October 14th, at 18:00, where topics such as risk factors for the development and maintenance of postural changes and back pain will be addressed, recommendations for the promotion of health at the spine level with emphasis on physical activity and cognitive-behavioral aspects, and clinical activities in the community and scientific-academic development.

The therapeutic classes will take place from the 17th to the 20th of October, with water aerobics, on the 17th and 19th of October, at 18:45 pm, and on the 18th and 20th of October, at 12:15 pm. On the 18th there is Clinical Pilates at 9:10 am and hydrotherapy on the 19th at 14:45 pm.
