Querença, Tôr and Benafim can once again become autonomous parishes

Manuel Viegas Guerreiro Foundation promotes debate on the conversion of the Union of Parishes of Querença, Tôr and Benafim

The auditorium of the Manuel Viegas Guerreiro Foundation, located in Querença, Loulé, was small to receive the inhabitants of Querença, Tôr and Benafim, who traveled in droves last night to hear the pros and cons of the administrative reorganization of this territory.

The Foundation invited the jurist Quirino Mealha, a member of the institution, to make the legal framework for the possibility of using the transitional and unrepeatable period that law no. administrative autonomy to each of the communities.

The deadline for this purpose to be fulfilled through a simplified process ends on December 21st.

On an unofficial basis, the president of the Union of Parishes of Querença, Tôr and Benafim, Margarida Correia, and, on behalf of the Municipality, the municipal director of the Municipality of Loulé, Júlio Sousa, attended.

Following the meeting, some elements suggested the creation of a mixed commission to monitor the process and achieve the objective in view.

The public session, which lasted until midnight, made clear the need to speed up legal procedures to achieve this end.

Most of those present expressed the feeling of returning to their origins, restoring the initial configuration of the autonomous parishes of Querença, Tôr and Benafim.

With this public session, the Foundation claims to give «its civic contribution to a deep, enlightening and conscious debate, not intending to replace the local elected representatives or the political parties, who, in the last instance, have the final word».

“The active participation of the population and its pronouncement on a matter of particular importance for each of the citizens are considered essential”, concludes the Foundation.
