PSD/Portimão criticizes “lacks” of the Mayor to Municipal Assemblies, Isilda explains

Isilda Gomes admits absences but explains that they are motivated by work in the service of the Municipality

The PSD/Portimão criticizes, in a statement, the “systematic absences” of the Mayor Isilda Gomes at the Municipal Assembly (AM) meetings, “when it validated dates previously”.

The Social Democrats, in a note sent by the Political Commission of the Municipality of Portimão, recall that, on Monday, another meeting of the AM took place, «whose date had prior approval in a conference of representatives (leaders of the political benches elected to this body in a meeting with the board of the Municipal Assembly), after availability given by the Mayor of Portimão». But Isilda Gomes did not attend.

«This date validation system, to ensure the most opportune date on the political agenda for everyone, executive and political opposition forces, is the democratic form adopted by most of the 308 Chambers and Municipal Assemblies in the country», adds the PSD from Portimo.

Contacted by Sul Informação, Isilda Gomes admitted her absence, but stressed that this has only happened «whenever I am at the service of the Chamber in other places and instances». In any case, she added, «in all these times, I am replaced, as is the law, by the vice president of the Chamber, who is present at the meetings of the Municipal Assembly, as well as all the other councilors of the permanent executive».

These absences of the socialist mayor may even become more frequent, since, on the 5th of October, Isilda Gomes will take office as chairman of the Natural Resources Commission (NAT), of the Committee of the Regions, at a ceremony that will take place in Brussels.

«I think it should be a source of pride for Portimão and even for the Algarve that a Mayor of the Algarve presides over a body like this», he added.

The NAT Commission brings together more than 100 municipal or regional presidents and members of municipal or regional assemblies, dealing with a wide variety of topics related to rural development, health, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, environmental protection. civil law, consumer protection and tourism.
