Anzol+ fish valorization project is the theme of a session in Quarteira

Project is promoted by SPEA and Sciaena

The Anzol+ project, whose objective is the valorization of fish, will be the subject of an information session that the Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds (SPEA) and Sciaena, will promote on Friday, the 16th, at 16:00, in the auditorium of the Parish Council of Quarteira, the entity that supports the initiative.

“Anzol+ brings together fishermen and researchers to promote sustainable and knowledge-based fisheries. This project seeks to implement measures and good practices in the capture and manipulation of marine resources, always in a balance between the preservation of resources and their economic exploitation», according to its promoters.

«Due to the various initiatives that are taking place in the Algarve regarding the strengthening of small-scale fishing and increasing consumer demand for local and responsibly caught products, we believe that the results of Anzol+ are interesting for fishermen in the Algarve region. and they can generate a healthy discussion about the state of small-scale fisheries and how we can guarantee their resilience», they add.

The session organizers also anticipate “that other important aspects will be addressed, such as the importance of fish valorization processes, the importance of sustainable and informed exploitation of marine ecosystems, the problem of accidental catches and other topics that are transversal to marine conservation, such as marine litter'.

The session will be aimed at fishermen and representatives of local fisheries associations, researchers, NGOs and representatives of other stakeholders relevant to the fisheries sector.
