The Government decreed three days of national mourning "as a just tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II", on the 18th, 19th and 20th of September.

The decision, taken today in the Council of Ministers, aims to honor the British monarch, who died on 8 September, a personality who “deeply marked the second half of the XNUMXth century and the first quarter of the XNUMXst century”.

This was the way found by the Government of Portugal to show solidarity with the United Kingdom in this «time of prolonged and deep mourning for our oldest ally».

The second day of national mourning, in Portugal, coincides with the state funeral of Isabel II, scheduled for 19 September.
