Maritime Police of Vila Real de Santo António and Tavira has a new commander

João Afonso Martins took office this Friday

Commander João Afonso Martins took office this Friday, September 16, as new captain of Porto and local commander of the Maritime Police of Vila Real de Santo António and Tavira, replacing commander Rui Vasconcelos de Andrade.

​The ceremony took place at the facilities of the Captaincy of Vila Real de Santo António and was presided over by the Deputy Director General of the Maritime Authority and 2nd General Commander of the Maritime Police, Rear Admiral Nuno Noronha Bragança.

The ceremony was attended by the head of the Southern Maritime Department and Regional Commander of the Southern Maritime Police, the Mayor of Tavira, the Mayor of Castro Marim and representatives of the Municipal Councils of Vila Real de Santo António. , Alcoutim, Mértola, as well as the Port Captains of the Southern Maritime Department, among the most diverse regional entities from different sectors.

In his inauguration speech, Commander Afonso Martins stated total availability and commitment to perform the functions inherent to the positions he will perform.
