Municipality of VRSA reduces liabilities and complies with Budget Balance Rule

Data for the first half of 2022 show a reduction in current liabilities of around 8,24% and show improvement in all financial and economic ratios

The municipality of Vila Real de Santo António «recorded a positive evolution in most of the financial indicators, in the first half of the year 2022», announced the local council.

The data are contained in the Report on the Economic and Financial Situation for the first half of 2022, prepared by the Statutory Auditors, and were presented yesterday by the mayor at the Chamber Meeting.

According to Álvaro Araújo, «in the first half of 2022, there was a reduction in current liabilities of 8,24% and in total liabilities of 2,14%, compared to the same period of the previous year», so «the Equilibrium Rule Budget is being met, under the terms in force, with a positive balance of 2.529.755,00 euros».

The figures presented also show an improvement in all financial and economic ratios from 31 December 2021 to 30.06.2022, with the municipal executive's intention to continue the trend of good practices implemented in the municipality.

Thus, and in the case of the External Supplies and Services heading, there was a relative decrease in the weight of expenses when compared to the end of the 1st half of 2021, from 30,33% to 26,90%, verifying that if still, on the same basis of analysis, a reduction of 5,68%, in the 1st half of 2021, to 1,8% on 31/06/2022 with regard to the heading of Transfers and Grants Granted.

From the relative analysis of the weight of income, it is worth noting that revenue from the Taxes and Fees item increased, in absolute terms, by 1.200.537,00 euros. The result in the 1st half of 2021 was 1.737.943,00 euros and, in the same period, rose 30,50%, to 2.500.599,00 euros.

As an example, the Mayor of VRSA highlighted the expenses incurred with events in recent years and compared them with the amount committed until the end of 2022.

Through the analysis of the last 12 years, from 2010 to 2021, it was found that the average expense incurred in events was 1.663.641,52 euros, while in 2022, until the end of the year, 541.755,00 are committed euros, «while still maintaining a dynamism in terms of cultural, sports and associative programmes».

«This is the sign of a new, more efficient and more effective management, focused on transparency that is based on a policy of correct accounts, which simultaneously watches over the progress and quality of life of our municipality», concludes Álvaro Araújo.
