Municipality of Loulé elected president of the Adapt.local Association, Lagos is at the table of the AG

The Municipality of Loulé, represented for its president Vítor Aleixo, was elected to the presidency of the direction of the Association adapt.local – Network of Municipalities for Local Adaptation to Climate Change, with the presidency of the general assembly being ensured by the Municipality of Guimarães and the presidency of the fiscal council by the Municipality of Mafra.

Lagos and Amarante were also elected to the table of the general meeting, Bragança, Torres Vedras, Castelo de Vide and Figueira da Foz to the board and the Municipalities of Braga and Vila Franca do Campo to the supervisory board.

At the General Assembly of adapt.local, which took place in Torres Vedras, on 9 September, the association's internal regulations were also approved, as well as the appointment of the respective management secretariat (comprising the Municipalities of Loulé, Guimarães and Torres Vedras, CEDRU, ICS-UL and by PATER).

Created in 2016 as an informal network, adapt.local was formalized in 2022, as a non-profit association governed by private law, in a ceremony that took place in Quarteira, bringing together 23 Portuguese municipalities and a diverse set of other public and private entities. , with direct intervention in climate action policies and initiatives.

Within the scope of the General Assembly, the municipalities of Cascais, Ferreira do Alentejo, Montalegre and Tomar were admitted as new effective members, and as auxiliary members CEDRU – Center for Regional and Urban Studies and Development; the Landscape Laboratory; PATER More Territory; P4P – Planning for People; IGOT – Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of the University of Lisbon; UM – University of Minho and ICSUL – Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon.

A adapt.local aims to boost local adaptation to climate change in Portugal, promoting continuous planning processes that accompany the increase in the capacity of Portuguese municipalities and other entities, public or private, to incorporate this matter in their policies of action and in their instruments of planning, affirming the importance of the local scale for the design and implementation of more effective and fair adaptation solutions.

As usual every year, adapt.local is organizing its next annual seminar, adapt.local.22, which will take place on the 25th of November in Castelo de Vide, which will be dedicated to themes: emergency in climate adaptation, heat waves and health, heat waves and forest fires', drought and water resources management and also accelerating adaptation.
