Manuel Pizarro is the new Minister of Health

The inauguration will be this Saturday, at 18:00, at Palácio de Belém.

Manuel Pizarro is the new Minister of Health, succeeding Marta Temido.

The doctor's name was proposed by Prime Minister António Costa and announced this Friday, 9 September.

In a note published on the official website of the Presidency, it reads that the "President of the Republic will confer possession tomorrow, Saturday, to the new Minister of Health, Manuel Francisco Pizarro de Sampaio e Castro, at 18:00, in the Palácio de Belém".

In addition to being a doctor, Pizarro is currently an MEP for the PS, leader of the Socialist delegation in the European Parliament and PS-Porto. Pizarro also has in his curriculum the position of Secretary of State for Health, between 2008 and 2011.

Marta Temido resigned from her post of Minister of Health on 30 August, «because he understood that he was no longer able to remain in office».
