At 73 years old, Luís Santos still spends long hours in front of the computer building lines and shapes that now present the Algarve to his eyes and from different perspectives.

“Algarve – Traços e Formas” is exactly the name of the exhibition that will be on display at the Associação Livre de Fotógrafos do Algarve (ALFA), in Vila Adentro, in Faro, between the 15th and 30th of September, which will present unique architectural images and perspectives of the Algarve capital and also of Olhão, Vila Real de Santo António, Tavira, Silves and Loulé.

The daily life of ancient times, the terraces and the houses are now represented in 3D in a work of years and thousands of hours.

A Physical Education teacher by profession, currently retired, Luís Santos has always maintained a taste for drawing, which he later decided to replace with computer work.

“It takes more work, but it also gives me great taste. The privilege of design is that I make a piece on the computer and then I can re-insert it into another drawing», he tells Sul Informação.

Despite already having a vast body of work, Luís Santos has not exhibited for more than two decades – something that will now be addressed.

«ALFA's objective is to give our partners and members the possibility of using this space to exhibit their work», explains Carlos Cruz, ALFA coordinator, to the Sul Informação.

This is a non-profit association, currently based at Rua António Maria Labóia, in Vila Adentro de Faro, «which seeks the participation and involvement of all associates, in order to dynamize associative life and foster collective spirit, interacting with the most diverse entities at regional, national and international levels».

In addition to giving them the opportunity to have a place to exhibit, the project also organizes small workshops for the greater training of its participants.

Due to the privileged location, overlooking the Ria Formosa, Carlos Cruz believes that the space and those who used it would benefit if there was a way to hire someone to open the door daily.

«The ideal support that we would like to have, from the Chamber of Faro, it was to hire a person who could open the door to the ALFA spaces at a fixed time, to allow more people to visit our exhibitions», continues Carlos Cruz.

Now, the opening of the door depends on the availability of volunteers and, therefore, in the case of the Luís Santos exhibition, the visit will be possible by appointment, between 17:00 and 20:00.

The artist's works will also be available for purchase at the ARCO Gallery, with prices between 20 and 200 euros.
