Loulé closes traffic in Praça da República on weekends

Associated with the closure of traffic, the Chamber will promote the animation program “Por Praças e Travessas – Artes na Rua”

Praça da República, in Loulé, will be closed to car traffic on weekends. The measure has already entered into force and is intended both to “improve public space” and “to boost and promote local commerce”.

The closure of traffic in this noble artery of the city – which passes next to the Municipal Market, the Town Hall and Café Calcinha (currently closed) – will always last from 20:00 pm on Friday until 6:00 am on Monday.

In an information published on Facebook, the municipality explains that, during this period, “there will be no car circulation, with the exception of emergency vehicles and vehicles inherent to commercial activities, namely the Market on Saturdays”.

Associated with this closure of the artery, the Chamber will promote the entertainment program “Por Praças e Travessas – Artes na Rua” «which aims to improve public space, boost and promote local commerce, as well as allow people to fully enjoy the city. , whether residents or tourists, in a spirit of healthy coexistence, outings with family or friends».

The program will feature initiatives such as music, theater, itinerant entertainment, children's entertainment, workshops, dance, among others.

In these first weekends, the musical entertainment will be in charge of Ana Newton (3rd, 21:30, Praça da República), Ao Luar Theater (9, 21:30, Cerca do Convento Espírito Santo) and the concert “Bandalhada”, within the scope of the 2nd Meeting of Ancient Military Vehicles of the Algarve (10th, 21:00, Monument Engº Duarte Pacheco).

Added to this is the fact that the Islamic Baths are open every Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm and from 13:30 pm to 18:00 pm, with free admission.

The schedule for the coming weekends will then also be made public.

Loulé Concelho Global joined this initiative and will, in this area, assist in the coordination and articulation in order to facilitate the process for all stakeholders, namely during the period of operation of the Municipal Market.

Otherwise, Largo Bernardo Lopes, next to Farmácia Chagas, and Rua Ataíde de Oliveira will be accessible. Traffic will be diverted to Rua de Portugal.
