Loulé trains employees for sustainable development goals

Training action took place on the 20th of

The municipal leaders and technicians participated last September 22 in a training action within the scope of the participation of the Municipality of Loulé in the ODSlocal – Municipal Platform of Sustainable Development Goals, which took place in the Auditorium of the Convento do Espírito Santo. 

Through this initiative, the Municipality wanted to promote the 17 sustainable development objectives enshrined in this project and the associated good practices, such as raising awareness among participants of this pressing matter, namely the importance of the 2030 Agenda, involving everyone in the challenges that arise and calling on Council employees. Municipality to achieve the goals.

According to the municipality, the training session was also an opportunity to publicize the work developed by the Municipality in this area.

In a note, the Loulé Chamber explains that the local ODS aims to stimulate a broad and open local sustainability movement, with strong multiplier effects, that highlight local actors and their initiatives and that promotes the creation of an extensive community of agents of change. committed to this global agenda.

The Local ODS Platform is supported by an online portal that allows to visualize, monitor and map the contributions and progress of each municipality in relation to the ODS, with a rigorous control of the quality of the information and an intense involvement of actors and their respective training, along with a strong commitment to a communication strategy.

 

 

The mapping encompasses innovative and sustainable practices promoted by initiatives located in the Municipality that directly contribute to the achievement of the SDGs at the local level, and may also include projects by non-governmental organizations, companies and good municipal practices.

This training action was carried out by David Avelar and Pedro Garrett from the company 2ADAPT, a start-up collaborating on this project, coordinated by the National Council for the Environment and Sustainable Development, together with OBSERVA of the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon, and the MARE from the Faculty of Science and Technology of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

The Municipality of Loulé also recalls that in December 2018 it was part of a group of eight Portuguese municipalities invited to participate in the pilot phase of the ODSlocal project, with more than 60 national municipalities currently participating in the project.

On the 11th of July, Mayor Vítor Aleixo was elected president of the Bureau of the Sustainable Development Goals Municipalities Section of the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities.
