Man arrested for hunting with snares

This Sunday, September 4, the GNR detained a 58-year-old man for hunting with iron traps and without having a hunter's license, in the municipality of Castro Marim.

Following a complaint about the practice of illegal hunting, elements of the Environmental Protection Center of Tavira found and detained the suspect in the act.

During the action, three traps and a hammer were seized.

The detainee was made an accused and the facts were sent to the Vila Real de Santo António Court.

In a statement, the GNR, through the Service for the Protection of Nature and the Environment (SEPNA), claims to have environmental and animal protection as a daily concern.

It appeals to the public to use the SOS Ambiente e Território Line (808 200 520), which is permanently available to report infractions or clarify doubts.

«The GNR recalls that, in the exercise of the hunting act, hunting of non-game species is prohibited, hunting in snow-covered terrain, with the exception of large game species (eg wild boar, deer, etc.), of the animals accompanying the hunter, the capture or destruction of nests, eggs and young of any kind'.

“These practices are typified by law as a crime”, the note sent to newsrooms also refers.
