Algarve historian Fernando Pessanha presents a study on corsairs in Ayamonte

The new investigation reveals a corsair expedition against the coasts of Huelva, silenced by the Spanish chronicles

The Casa Grande da Cultura de Ayamonte will open its doors on Friday, September 23 at 20:00 pm (Spanish time), to welcome the Algarve historian Fernando Pessanha and the presentation of his new study, The expedition of the corsair Portuguese D. Gonçalo Camelo to the coasts of Huelva in 1336.

After the launch at the Patio de las Letras in Punta Umbría, last June, the historian and senior culture technician at the Municipal Historical Archives António Rosa Mendes/VRSA, resumed the cycle of presentations, starting the season in neighboring Ayamonte, a city that, together with Vila Real de Santo António and Castro Marim, they constitute the Eurocity of Guadiana.

Fernando Pessanha's new investigation reveals a corsair expedition against the coasts of Huelva, silenced by the Spanish chronicles dealing with the Portuguese and Castilian war of 1336-1339.

Originally published in the latest issue of the magazine Huelva in its History, from the University of Huelva, The expedition of the corsair Portuguese D. Gonçalo Camelo to the coasts of Huelva in 1336 is now individually released as a separate by Editora Guadiana, from Vila Real de Santo António, with design and translation by Adela M. Sevilla, responsible for Editamarketing editorial services.

Fernando Pessanha, researcher at the Iberian Association of Military History and doctoral candidate at the University of Huelva, will feature a presentation by María Antonia Moreno Flores, from the Municipal Archive of Ayamonte, and Remedios Sánchez Rubiales, councilor for culture in the same municipality.

The event will also feature the Portuguese guitar of the Algarve Filipe Santos, who will set the event with compositions by Portuguese authors. Entry is free.
