GNR seizes 60 traps used in illegal fishing

in Silves

The GNR seized this Tuesday, September 13, about 60 fishing pots used in illegal fishing, in the municipality of Silves.

The seizure took place following a complaint on the SOS Ambiente Line, for an alleged situation of illegal fishing, which made the Guard's military seize about 60 pots (traps) and respective wooden stakes and 17 kilos of fish species, among including river shrimp, juvenile eels, Louisiana red crayfish and mullet.

The species were then returned to their natural habitat and the facts sent to the Judicial Court of Silves.

In a note, the GNR explains that, through the Service for the Protection of Nature and the Environment (SEPNA), “the protection of animals is a daily concern, appealing to the denunciation of situations of environmental scope”. For this purpose, the SOS Ambiente e Território Hotline (808 200 520) may be used, operating permanently to report infractions or clarify doubts.
