Faro wins National Award “Mobility on a Bike”

Award recognizes those who promote the use of bicycles

The Chamber of Faro received the National Award “Mobility in Bicycle”, in a ceremony that took place on Tuesday, 20th of September, in Lisbon. 

The initiative, promoted by the National Federation of Cycling Tourism and Bicycle Users (FNCUB), aims to «publicly recognize the contribution of entities or people who have promoted the use of the bicycle in its multiple aspects, through the creation or improvement of conditions or the promotion of initiatives to encourage the use of this sustainable mode of transport».

In addition to the Municipality of Faro, the Municipality of Vila Nova de Poiares and the Municipality of Almeirim were also distinguished; the Association of Parents and Guardians of the EB/JI Padre Manuel de Castro S. Mamede de Infesta; the EMEL Mobility Systems Management Department (companies); Paula Sofia Luz (Diário de Notícias), in the area of ​​Social Communication, Alfragide Sobre Rodas, Fernando Neves, Kidical Mass in Portugal and Sandra May in the area of ​​Activism and Social Intervention, and Carlos Neto, Manuel Barros and Laure de Witte, in the area of Citizenship.

Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber of Faro, and councilor Sophie Matias, were the representatives of the municipality at the awards ceremony, which was also attended by Jorge Delgado, Secretary of State for Urban Mobility, and representatives of FNCUP.
