Faro: Lecture series teaches seniors to act in emergency situations

First session will be tomorrow

Preparing the population over 60 for emergency situations is the objective of a series of lectures that the Municipal Library of Faro, in partnership with the Municipal Civil Protection Service, will launch tomorrow, September 27th.

The cycle “Civil Protection – knowing more to be more protected” includes lectures “adapted to the senior public, promoting the prevention of collective risks and contributing to making the local community safer and more resilient”, according to the Biblioteca de Faro.

In the sessions, which will always take place at 15:00, the Civil Protection Service will be presented, “as well as its Senior Civil Protection Academy project, inviting all participants to be active agents of the safety culture”.

“Preparing for an emergency in the face of an accident situation is as important for those working in the rescue area as it is for the citizen who, informed of the risks he runs, will be able to act in an appropriate way in his protection and in collaboration with the entities involved. of relief", frames the Library of Faro.

The topics covered on the 27th of September will be “How to make an emergency call to 112?” and “Safe burnings/fires, how to do it?”.

On October 14th, the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction will be marked with the theme “How can I prepare to be safer?”.

“Rain, floods and floods: how to prevent and how to actively participate to achieve a more resilient community?” will be the theme of the 9th of November, while on the 14th of December the theme of “Christmas parties: redoubled attention to the Christmas pine tree and chimneys” will be addressed.

The sessions are free of charge, aimed at the public over 60 years of age, as well as at the various institutions supporting the elderly in the municipality of Faro.

This partnership is part of the project “Histórias Contadas Sorrisos Parlhados”, «which aims to combat the exclusion of the elderly, promoting lifelong learning opportunities and is part of the sustainability goals of the 2030 Agenda, defined by the United Nations».
