Farense beat Leixões 0-1 in a game where Lucão was a hero

Algarve players still claimed a penalty near the end of the match, but without success

Farense beat Leixões by 0-1, in a game of the 6th round of the II Football League, played this Sunday, September 11, at Estádio do Mar, in Matosinhos.

The first half ended with a 0-0 and not much to tell, although with a slight rise from Leixões, playing at home. And it was almost at the end of the first half that a great shot by Thalis Henrique scared Farense, but without consequences.

In the second half, Farense seemed to have entered with the will to open the scoring, although it still took some time to start. In the 67th minute, Pedro Henrique, with his left foot, forced the home team's goalkeeper to apply himself and shoot for a corner. Three minutes later, it was Cristian Ponde's turn to match a cross well taken from the right, but the ball went wide.

In the middle, at 68′, the first substitution was made. At Leixões, perhaps to try to sustain the momentum of the Algarve, João Oliveira left and Tiago Morais entered. And the home team insisted on refreshing their squad on the field: at 74′, Rúben Araújo and Evrard Zag came on, Zé Eduardo and Fabinho came out.

In the following minutes, the Faroese Pedro Henrique played two dangerous shots for the northerners' nets, but still without getting the goal.

Despite this good performance, coach Vasco Faísca chose to let Pedro Henrique out soon after, to make way for the also forward Lucão.

And the exchange paid off: five minutes later, in the 82nd minute, Lucão, after assisting Cristian Ponde, scored the first and only goal of the match, putting the Algarve team ahead. This was the 5th goal of the Brazilian Lucão in the six games this season.

At 86′, Lucas was once again in the spotlight, but this time in a move that led the Faroese to claim, without success, for a penalty: demonstrating his ability to play in the air, the Brazilian forward from the Algarve won the ball to the goalkeeper. Leixões nets, both ending up colliding.

The two teams had come to this game without winning in the previous round: Leixões had lost to Benfica B, while Farense drew XNUMX-XNUMX against SC Covilhã.

This time, the Algarve have the advantage with this fair victory, through which Farense rises to 3rd place in the II League table.

On the next round, at home, the team of Faro will face a direct opponent, Vilafranquense, who is in 2nd place.
