The exhibition “Água é Vida”, by the German artist Gudrun Bartels, opens on the 23rd of September, at 18:00, at the Portimão Museum and marks the beginning of the European Heritage Days, which take place from the 23rd to the 25th.

This year the theme of the day is “Sustainable Heritage”, and where the theme of this exhibition “Water is Life” fits.

Gudrun Bartels was born in Bremen, Germany. After studying art at the University of Göttingen, she began to work as an artist,
showing his work in various exhibitions in the country and abroad, including in his favorite region of the Algarve.

According to the municipality, the artist's work is heavily influenced by the sea, with its ebbs and flows, waves, wind, smells, sounds and the horizon. The favorite color is, for this reason, blue, which is reflected in a very specific visual language, where the water element predominates in the canvases and in the installation he shares in this exhibition, at the Portimão Museum.

The aesthetic and chromatic expression of his works, which combines oil and acrylic paints with chalk and pigments, is the result of this enveloping maritime nature, present in the geometry of his graphic patterns, games of colors and abstractions of the Atlantic landscape, with its different luminosities. and facets.

Gudrun Bartels lives and works in the Algarve during the winter months.

The exhibition will be on display at the Portimão Museum until the 13th of November and can be visited on Tuesdays, from 14:30 pm to 18:00 pm, and from Wednesday to Sunday, from 10:00 am to 18:00 pm.
