Entrepreneurs and researchers launch book on Halophyte Agriculture in the Algarve

Bilingual edition in Portuguese/English

Entrepreneurs and researchers Ricardo Coelho, Mauro Hilário and Hugo Mariano came together to produce the first book dedicated to halophyte production in the Algarve, which will be presented between the 16th and 18th of September in Lagos, Portimão and Faro.

«Halo Farms – Halophyte Agriculture» is a bilingual edition in Portuguese/English that aims to alert to changes in soil quality caused by the increase in salinity and erosion, as well as the scarcity of fresh water, which partially or totally limit production. conventional agricultural.

The solution presented involves the production of autochthonous vegetation that tolerates or requires the presence of salt for its development, thus trying to achieve financial, social and environmental development in non-productive areas. The production of salicornia, now widely used in gastronomy, is one of the examples of production.

This work, prefaced by the journalist Tony Melo and published by Arandis Editora, will feature three presentations this weekend, which, more than mere presentations of a book, intend to constitute «moments of debate and exchange of ideas and an alert so that the competent authorities begin to prepare the future, without dramatisms, but with technical and scientific knowledge that support their decisions».

The three presentations are scheduled for Lagos, Portimão and Faro:

September 16th, at 21 pm, in Lagos, at the Paços do Concelho Séc Auditorium. XX, Municipality of Lagos
September 17th, at 17 pm, in Portimão, Manuel Teixeira Gomes Municipal Library
September 18, at 17 pm, in Faro, at Travessa de Portugal, n.º 11 R/c
