Conference and Design Workshop explore the impact of the Discoveries on Algarve and European food

Aljezur welcomes the next activities of the Magallanes_ICC project promoted by the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve

Teresa Nobre de Carvalho will be the speaker at the conference “Plants of the Discoveries and their impact on the Algarve”, which will take place on Friday, September 23, between 17:30 pm and 19:30 pm, at the Parish Council of Aljezur.

The conference will address the changes brought about by the arrival of exotic and unknown plants and plant products on the European continent.

On the 28th, between 18:30 pm and 20:30 pm, at the headquarters of Tertúlia Associação Sócio-cultural de Aljezur, in a creative workshop on territorial design, designer Alexandra Santos points out some ways to use history as an active element in a creative process.

The maritime voyages of the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries made it possible to discover new territories, bring continents closer and made it possible for new products and culinary ingredients to appear or spread in Europe, which at the time aroused curiosity and strangeness, but which ended up being assimilated into our culture, such that today we cannot imagine our kitchen without the presence of some of them.

This is a fascinating story that eloquently expresses the concept of globalization, linking peoples, products, discoveries and cultures, while also providing the opportunity to deepen knowledge of the Algarve's history over the last 500 years.

Based on the historical knowledge shared at this meeting, as well as on its relationship with the territory of the Places of Globalization, the community linked to the Cultural and Creative Industries will have the opportunity to participate in a creative workshop, where territorial design techniques will be used with the aim of stimulate the emergence of new ideas to be applied in the creation and/or development of products or services within the scope of CCIs, responding to their particular challenges in the field of communication, dissemination and commercialization to the public.

The workshop will also make it possible to understand how the development of this type of products, within the scope of the CCI, can contribute to the enhancement of local identity and the territory as a whole, making it more attractive and interesting, both for residents and visitors. On the other hand, it is also intended to demonstrate how the dissemination of scientific knowledge, in this case historical knowledge, can be a solid basis for the flourishing of these ideas and a starting point for business opportunities in the cultural and creative sector.

After a break during the summer, these will be the next activities promoted by the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve within the scope of the Magallanes_ICC project, in order to stimulate the creation of products and/or services within the scope of the ICC, linked to the theme of “Algarvian participation in the undertaking of maritime expansion in the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries”, in the territory of the Places of Globalization, corresponding to the municipalities of Monchique, Vila do Bispo, Aljezur, Lagos and Silves.

Magallanes_ICC is a cross-border cooperation project, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), through the Interreg VA España-Portugal Program (POCTEP) 2014-2020.

These sessions also have the logistical support of the Aljezur City Council, the Aljezur Parish Council and the Aljezur Socio-cultural Association Tertúlia.

Participation in the conference is free, but prior registration is advised for the purpose of managing the activity. In the case of the creative workshop, registration is mandatory.
