Rain returns to Algarve and Alentejo on Monday

According to the IPMA

The rain is expected to return to the south of the country on Monday, a day for which "periods of rain or showers, sometimes heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms and strong gusts" are expected in the Algarve and Alentejo, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and of the Atmosphere.

This weather chart is valid for the Central and South regions, throughout the day, and in the North region from the afternoon onwards.

On the 12th, the wind should “below light to moderate (up to 30 km/h) from the south quadrant, sometimes blowing strong (up to 40 km/h), with gusts up to 65 km/h, in the western coastal strip, and being moderate to strong (30 to 45 km/h) in the highlands, with gusts up to 75 km/h».

The IPMA also provides for a “small rise in the minimum temperature” and a “fall in the maximum temperature”.

The conditions that are foreseen for the next days, which should remain until the end of next week, are linked to the extratropical cyclone Danielle, which is expected to approach the Iberian Peninsula from the afternoon of Sunday 11th, «causing a significant change in the weather on the continent».

According to the IPMA, the depression, a "former hurricane", "is associated with masses of hot and unstable air, with a high content of water vapour", which will lead to "periods of rain or showers on the coast north of Cape Espichel, which will sometimes be strong, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong gusts from the dawn of the 12th, when it will arrive in the south of the country.

This precipitation scenario “should continue throughout the week, although with smaller amounts from the 14th onwards”.
