Frigate Captain Alexandre Algarvio is the new Captain of Porto and Local Commander of the Maritime Police of Olhão, having taken office this morning, at 11:00, in a ceremony that took place next to the Lifeguard Station in that city.

The event was chaired by the Deputy Director General of the Maritime Authority and 2nd General Commander of the Maritime Police, Rear Admiral Noronha Bragança, with the presence of several civil and military entities.

Commander Alexandre Algarvio replaces Frigate Captain André Cardoso de Morais in office.

 

Biography of the new Captain of the Port of Olhão

Frigate captain Alexandre Rogério da Silva Algarvio was born in Santiago do Cacém on March 13, 1980.

On October 12, 1998, he joined the Naval School, having completed the Degree in Naval Military Sciences – Marine Branch, in 2003.

In September 2003, he embarked on the patrol ship Zaire, where he held the positions of Chief of the Navigation Service, Chief of the Artillery Service and Chief of the
Communications Service. As of March 2004, he assumed the duties of First Officer.

Between September 2005 and September 2007, he commanded the inspection boat Cisne, specializing in Communications.

After completing his specialization, he was placed at the School of Naval Technologies as Head of the Communications and Information Systems Organization Office until 2010, where he taught subjects related to the Organization and Security of Communications and Information Systems and was the director of the Specialization Courses for Communications Officers and Communications Sergeants Training Courses.

Between 2010 and 2012, he was assigned to the Azores Operational Command, in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel, as Head of the Communications and Information System Area, Head of the Communications Center and Head of Sub-Registration, where he was responsible for communications and information systems. joint information of the Armed Forces in the Autonomous Region of the Azores.

In 2012, he returned to the School of Naval Technologies as Head of the Communications and Information Systems Organization Office until 2014, where he performed similar functions between 2008 and 2010.

At the same time, between 2012 and 2014, he was part of the General Staff of the Portuguese Naval Force (PRTMARFOR) as head of Communications and Information Systems of that force, having participated in several naval and joint exercises.

He attended the Promotion to Senior Officer Course, at the Instituto Universitário Militar, in the academic year 2014/2015, followed by a commission at the Naval Command between 2015 and 2017, as Chief of Protocol where he organized and collaborated in the organization of various military ceremonies naval and ensemble, events and
visits of civil and military entities, national and foreign, to the Navy, having also accompanied the visits of foreign warships to Portugal.

Between 2017 and 2020, he served in the External Relations Division of the General Staff of the Navy, as Head of the Area of ​​Representation, Diplomacy and Protocol, where he was responsible for the protocol of Navy ceremonies and events, for the organization of Navy and Joint ceremonies. , for the establishment of relations with foreign diplomatic authorities accredited in Portugal, namely Defense and Military Attachés, and for the processing of diplomatic authorizations for foreign State and war ships that intend to visit Portugal.

From 2020 to 2021, he was posted to the Office of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces as Assistant to the Protocol, where he was responsible for the organization and protocol of several military ceremonies and events of Joint and Combined scope, and visits of civil and military entities, national and foreign.

After an 8-month stint at the Hydrographic Institute as Head of the Human Resources Division, he attended the course on “Improvement in Maritime Authority”, at the Maritime Authority School, having been appointed to the position of Captain of the Port of Olhão and Local Commander of the Olhão Maritime Police.

His service record includes several commendations and the following decorations: Distinguished Service Medal – Silver Grade, Saint George’s Cross Medal – 2nd Class, Naval Cross Medal – 2nd Class, Naval Cross Medal – 3. th Class, Medal of Exemplary Behavior – Silver Degree and Médaille de la Défense Nationale – Échelon Bronze – Agrafe Marine Nationale.

He was promoted to the rank of frigate captain on December 31, 2020.

Frigate captain Alexandre Rogério da Silva Algarvio is married, has two children and lives in Montes de Alvor.
