The Public Ministry (MP) is investigating the case of the elderly woman who was filmed, covered in ants and with an open wound. The provider of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Boliqueime says that the institution has a «clear conscience», but regrets the whole situation.
In an interview given to SIC, Sílvia Sebastião acknowledged that there was “mistreatment” of this elderly woman, regretting what happened.
“We had two employees on the night shift and, of course, the ants didn't go to bed in 30 minutes or an hour. I consider that there was negligence because the officials should have made the rounds they are required to do and there was this carelessness”, he considered.
According to the provider, Misericórdia itself only learned that the “situation was so serious” when Social Security and the Public Health delegate went to Santa Casa, earlier this month.
As for the video, the institution only learned of its existence “yesterday”.
According to Sílvia Sebastião, it is already known that «it was a collaborator of the institution who made the video, in a mounted way, because the lady was uncovered».
Although there is still no “suspension” of any employee, Misericórdia de Boliqueime says that this is “being dealt with”.
The elderly woman in question entered the institution in March 2021 and died in July.
